Relevant work experience requirements for the Urgent Care Technician Program:

In lieu of education requirement, at least 2 months of experience in direct patient care (acute or ambulatory space) may be considered. Or an active CNA, EMT, Paramedic or Medic Certification all urgent care staff.

Urgent Care Technician Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical and administrative support for providers, patients, and office operations
  • Greet and register patients as they arrive
  • Obtain medical history, patient vital signs, and intake
  • Prepare patients for X-rays
  • Perform and document routine labs, such as throat and urine cultures (venipuncture experience preferred)
  • Irrigate and assist with wounds
  • Assist in performing quality control testing in the lab
  • Keep exam rooms and front reception stocked with adequate supplies
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of the waiting room area
  • Practice standard safety practices and precautions
  • Help patients in distress by responding to emergencies and notifying medical team (nurse, urgent care tech, and physician)
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes to management team
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential
  • Assistant patients with complaints and taking an active role in service recovery when needed
  • Perform other duties as needed including apply splints and assisting the nurse and/or provider in other medical procedures

About the 1-Day Urgent Care Technician Certification Workshop

This is a blended Urgent Care Technician continuing education and national certification bridge program including a self-study portion and an instructor-led classroom, also hands-on skills session. The self-study portion must be completed prior to attending the in-class portion. (Allow approximately 20 hours to complete the self-study portion). Upon successful completion of this bridge program, you will receive a certificate of completion from a licensed school and sit for the same day National Certification Exam which is valid for two years.

  • Prior to attending the hands-on Lab skills workshop applicants are required to complete the preparatory reading assignment course material, which includes course questions that must be answered. (Or be currently enrolled). This is a mandatory requirement by the board. Course materials are completed from home at your own pace!
  • Applicants are required to attend and complete the 1-day classroom lecture, hands-on clinical skills lab, and Preparation for national certification workshop. (Same Day National Certification Exam)
  • Work Based Option applicants Have the Option to complete the Skills and Competency Assessment Examination form at work. The purpose is to examine and evaluate the healthcare professionals’ clinical competence through performance-based assessment. To be eligible for certification in lieu of attending the hands-on clinical class the skills and competency assessment examination must be completed by the applicant’s direct supervisor.
  • Included in the cost preparatory study guide, supplies and the national certification exam fees.
  • On site group trainings are available for 8 or more participants.
